Texas A&M Building Performance Assessment Center (BPAC)

Funded by the U.S. Department of Energy in 2021, the Building Performance Assessment Center (BPAC) at Texas A&M University is a pilot program with a team of professional staff and trained students that conducts free energy assessments for small- and medium-sized commercial buildings under 100,000 square feet, benefiting building owners by identifying cost-saving opportunities. The program conducts assessments across commercial, municipal, educational, laboratories, medical, business offices, and restaurants, analyzing building systems and operations to uncover energy-saving measures. BPAC team reviews building energy usage information, interviews building managers/operators, and tours the building to assess major energy-using equipment, in order to discover savings opportunities–including monetary savings and implementation costs. It delivers customized recommendations to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance overall building performance, while also training students in conducting energy assessments.
