Dr. Zheng O’Neill is  J. Mike Walker ’66 Associate Professor in the J. Mike Walker ’66 Department of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University. Her research focuses on building energy efficiency and resilience. Her current research portfolio (https://hvac.engr.tamu.edu/) emphasizes and exploits intelligent building operations, grid-interactive efficient buildings, smart, resilient, and connected community, and well-being in the built environment, through simulations, hardware-in-the-loop emulators, and real building demonstrations. Zheng has 20 years of experience in the building sciences and has been the PI/co-PI for projects totaling $15.5 M since 2014 and has over 110 published journal and conference papers. Currently, she is the Research Chair of ASHRAE TC 7.5 Smart Building Systems and is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Building Performance Simulation and an Associate Editor of Science and Technology for the Built Environment.

She was previously an Associate Professor at The University Of Alabama between 2013 to 2019. From 2006 to 2013, she was a Principal Investigator at United Technologies Research Center (UTRC), East Hartford, Connecticut, where she was responsible for the development and field-implement of advanced building optimal controls, building performance monitoring, energy diagnostics and low energy/net zero energy buildings. She was with Cimetrics in Boston, MA as an Energy Analyst from 2005 to 2006. Originally from China, Dr. O’Neill received her Ph.D.  in Mechanical Engineering from the Building and Environmental Thermal Systems Research Group at Oklahoma State University in 2004 and is a registered Professional Engineer.
